The Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation (MRI) has joined the Consortia Advancing Standards in Research Administration Information (CASRAI).
As a CASRAI member, the ministry intends to standardize the information it collects from researchers, helping minimize the administrative challenges they face in interacting with multiple funding agencies and collaborating investigators.
"New discoveries will continue to be made and we want those innovative people, ideas and jobs right here in Ontario,” said Minister of Research and Innovation John Milloy. “Standardization will help streamline the process of applying for grants in Ontario, meaning our world-class researchers and institutions will spend less time on administration and focus more on their research.”
The ministry has already contributed existing program data models for incorporation in the new CASRAI research activity standard recently launched.
"It is an important step for CASRAI to have Ontario’s Ministry of Research and Innovation joining this initiative," said David Baker, Executive Director of CASRAI. "For Ontario researchers and institutions, this holds the promise of greatly reducing the administrative duplication and friction inherent when submitting CVs, funding applications and reports to their federal, provincial and foundation funders."
