Introduced in its current narrative form in 2015, the NIH Biosketch requires applicants to write a personal statement explaining why they are suited to lead the proposed work; to list positions and honours; to describe up to five major contributions to science (each contribution illustrated by up to four citations); and to disclose ongoing and recently completed research support. The format predates more recent narrative CVs and is among the earliest mainstream funder formats to favour narrative explanation of contribution over publication lists.
