Information

Individual data elements (text, numbers, images, etc.) that have been collected together and organized according to a known set of rules and/or filters.

Data organized into information in this way provides a reader with context and cohesiveness that would be absent if just looking at the underlying data. Information can be thought of as an answer to a question of some kind. Information is often represented as documents. Generic examples include a sales report – answering the question “How were our sales in the western division last month?”; or a simple business card – answering the question “How can I contact you?”
