Female JIC to FNPT Adapter- Various Sizes
$8.00
In stockPrice varies by Size.
Stainless steel adapter joining a female 37° JIC end to a female NPT end, stocked in nine size combinations across 1/4″, 3/8″ and 1/2″. The JIC end seals metal-to-metal on the 37° flare so it takes no thread sealant; the NPT end is a tapered thread and needs PTFE tape or a sealant compatible with your media. Both end sizes are chosen together as a single variant.

Description
Female JIC to female NPT adapter in stainless steel, used to bring a JIC-terminated hose or tube run onto NPT-threaded equipment.
The two thread systems seal in completely different ways, which is the practical reason this adapter exists. A JIC connection is a 37° flare: the seal is made metal-to-metal between the flare face and the cone, and the thread only supplies clamping force. NPT is a tapered pipe thread that seals on the thread flanks themselves, which is why it needs PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant and why over-tightening into a fitting body can split it. Do not put sealant on the JIC flare face – it does nothing there and can contaminate the line.
Nine size combinations are stocked, pairing 1/4″, 3/8″ and 1/2″ on each end: 1/4″ x 1/4″, 1/4″ x 3/8″, 1/4″ x 1/2″, 3/8″ x 1/4″, 3/8″ x 3/8″, 3/8″ x 1/2″, 1/2″ x 1/4″, 1/2″ x 3/8″ and 1/2″ x 1/2″.
The source listing specifies stainless steel but does not state the alloy grade, the pressure rating or the temperature range, so we do not publish figures for those.
Frequently asked questions
What size combinations are available?+
Nine, pairing 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" on both ends: 1/4" x 1/4", 1/4" x 3/8", 1/4" x 1/2", 3/8" x 1/4", 3/8" x 3/8", 3/8" x 1/2", 1/2" x 1/4", 1/2" x 3/8" and 1/2" x 1/2". Select the pair as one variant.
Does the JIC end need thread tape?+
No. A JIC joint seals metal-to-metal on the 37° flare face; the threads only provide clamping load. Sealant on a flare face is at best useless and at worst a source of particulate in the line.
Does the NPT end need thread sealant?+
Yes. NPT is a tapered thread that seals on the thread flanks, so it requires PTFE tape or a liquid sealant chosen for compatibility with your media and temperature.
Is JIC the same as an AN or a 45° flare fitting?+
JIC and AN share the 37° flare angle but differ in thread tolerance and inspection requirements, and they are not the same as the 45° SAE flare used in refrigeration and automotive work. A 45° flare will not seal against a 37° cone. Check the flare angle, not just the thread size.
What alloy is it?+
The listing states stainless steel but does not identify the grade. If you need 304 or 316 specifically - for example on a corrosion or extractables basis - tell us before ordering rather than assuming.
What is the pressure rating?+
Not stated in the source listing, so we do not quote one. Where a fitting is part of a rated pressure system, the rating has to come from documented data for the specific part, not from an inference about its size or material.
