Description

The OHAUS Guardian 2000 e-G21HS07C is an analog hotplate stirrer for general-purpose heating and stirring: solution and sample preparation, boiling liquids, dissolving buffers and reagents, preparing media, and concentrating samples. Heating and stirring are each set on a knob, which keeps the interface simple in shared and teaching spaces where an instrument passes between many users.

The top plate is ceramic — smooth and chemical-resistant, so spills clean off without attacking the surface — over a rugged metal housing with a spill-resistant design. A hot top indicator light illuminates whenever the plate is above 40 °C, which is the practical safety feature on an analog unit with no digital temperature readout to warn the next person at the bench.

Frequently asked questions

What is the temperature and speed range?+

70 °C to 500 °C on the plate, and 200 to 1600 rpm stirring. Both are set on analog knobs — there is no digital setpoint or temperature readout on the Guardian 2000.

How large a volume will it stir?+

OHAUS rates the stirring capacity at 15 L for this model.

What is the top plate made of, and how big is it?+

Ceramic, 7 × 7 in / 17.8 × 17.8 cm. OHAUS specifies it as smooth and chemical-resistant for easy clean-up. The 4 × 4 in and 5.3 in round models in the same Guardian 2000 range use different plate materials, so check the model number if plate material matters to your application.

What power supply does it need?+

100–120 V, approximately 10 A, 50/60 Hz, consuming 1035 W. A 220–240 V version of the same model draws approximately 7 A.

Are stir bars included?+

OHAUS states that stirring models in the Guardian 2000 range include PTFE-coated stir bars. Additional PTFE Spinbar sizes are listed as accessories: 2.5 cm, 3.8 cm, 7 cm, and 10 cm with a pivot ring.
