Description
A straight glass connecting adapter carrying a 24/40 standard-taper female joint at each end. Its purpose is to extend a 24/40 connection — adding length between two pieces of an existing train — or to join two 24/40 male joints that could not otherwise be coupled directly to one another.
Because both ends are sockets, the adapter accepts any 24/40 inner cone without an intermediate reducer, so it can be dropped into a distillation, reflux or extraction assembly without changing anything else about the joint sizing.
Specification
- Joint: 24/40 standard taper, female (socket), both ends
- Configuration: straight, female-to-female
- Material: glass
- Part number: 2440F
The male-to-male counterpart is listed separately as part number 2440m. Ground-glass joints are held together by friction alone; a #24 Keck clamp is the matching retaining clip for the 24/40 joints on this adapter and is listed separately.
Frequently asked questions
What joint size does this adapter take?+
24/40 standard taper at both ends, and both ends are female sockets. It accepts any 24/40 male inner cone.
What is it used for?+
Extending a 24/40 connection by adding length between two components, or joining two 24/40 male joints directly — something that is not otherwise possible, since two inner cones cannot mate with each other.
How is this different from the male-to-male version?+
This adapter has two sockets and therefore joins two male joints. The male-to-male adapter (part number 2440m) has two inner cones and joins two female sockets. Choose according to what is already fitted on your glassware.
What is it made from?+
Glass. The supplier specification we hold does not state a glass grade, so no grade is claimed here. If your method requires a specific grade, ask us to confirm before ordering.
How many adapters are supplied?+
One. The listing carries no lot quantity, unlike the Keck clamp lots elsewhere in this category.
Do I need clips to hold the joints together?+
Ground-glass joints rely on friction and are not mechanically locked. A #24 Keck clamp fits the 24/40 joints on this adapter and is sold separately, in stainless steel in lots of five or in hard plastic in lots of ten.
