Description
A straight glass connecting adapter carrying a 24/40 standard-taper male joint at each end. It is used to extend a 24/40 connection — adding length between two pieces of an existing train — or to couple two 24/40 female sockets that could not otherwise be joined directly to one another.
Because both ends are inner cones, the adapter seats into any 24/40 socket without an intermediate reducer, so it can be added to a distillation, reflux or extraction assembly without altering the joint sizing anywhere else.
Specification
- Joint: 24/40 standard taper, male (inner cone), both ends

Frequently asked questions
What joint size does this adapter take?+
24/40 standard taper at both ends, and both ends are male inner cones. Each end seats into a 24/40 female socket.
What is it used for?+
Extending a 24/40 connection by adding length between two components, or joining two 24/40 female sockets directly — two sockets cannot mate with each other without an adapter of this type.
How is this different from the female-to-female version?+
This adapter has two inner cones and joins two sockets. The female-to-female adapter (part number 2440F) has two sockets and joins two male joints. Choose according to what is already fitted on your glassware.
What is it made from?+
Glass. The supplier specification we hold does not state a glass grade, so no grade is claimed here. Ask us to confirm before ordering if your method requires a specific grade.
How many adapters are supplied?+
One. The listing carries no lot quantity.
Do I need clips to hold the joints together?+
Ground-glass joints are friction-fit and are not mechanically locked. A #24 Keck clamp fits a 24/40 joint and is sold separately, in stainless steel in lots of five or hard plastic in lots of ten.
