Frequently asked questions

How does it reach −90 °C from an air-cooled machine?+

It uses a two-stage cascade: a first stage charged with 2.5 kg of R452A feeding a second stage charged with 0.75 kg of R23. Both are classified A1 / H280, so neither stage uses a flammable refrigerant. That combination is what allows a −90 °C process temperature without water cooling or liquid nitrogen.

What pump performance and fluid limits apply?+

Maximum pump delivery is 48 lpm at 0.9 bar through M30x1.5 male connections, with a permissible fluid viscosity of 50 mm²/s. Thermofluid selection matters more than usual on this unit: viscosity near −90 °C is what limits achievable flow, so choose the fluid against the bottom of your working range, not the middle.

What are the electrical and siting requirements?+

208 V 3~ 60 Hz at a maximum of 40 A. The unit measures 540 × 654 × 1738 mm (21.26 × 25.75 × 68.43 in) and weighs 396 kg (873 lb), and its permissible ambient is 5 to 35 °C — a narrower window than the single-stage Unistats, because the cascade rejects a substantial heat load into the room.

How much fluid does the system hold?+

Minimum filling volume is 3.2 litres with a 5.3 litre expansion volume. Because the circuit is hydraulically sealed rather than an open bath, the total charge is small relative to the machine's capability, and the fluid is not exposed to air.

Can it be integrated into a process control system?+

Analogue input and output are available through the optional Com.G@te module. As standard the unit provides a Pt100 external probe connection plus RS232, Ethernet, USB Device and USB Host, with Pilot ONE at E-grade "Professional" including TAC self-optimising control and 0.01 °C display resolution.

What is supplied with it?+

The data sheet for order number 1054.0006.01 lists a mini-USB cable (#54949) and the E-grade "Professional" licence (#9496). Com.G@te, SpyLight software, an RS232 adapter cable, metal hoses, an external sensor and thermofluid are listed as options.
