Description

The Class II Type A2 Biosafety Cabinet (BSC) provides personnel, product, and environmental protection for handling infectious or potentially infectious materials. All exhaust air is HEPA-filtered prior to release, maintaining a safe workspace that meets NSF/ANSI 49 performance criteria.
Unlike clean benches that blow unfiltered air toward the user, and unlike chemical fume hoods that lack product protection, this NSF Certified Class II Type A2 Biosafety Cabinet combines inward airflow with HEPA-filtered laminar downflow for comprehensive protection. A motorized, laminated safety glass window, dual HEPA filters with life indicators, microprocessor control, and stainless-steel work zone simplify safe operation and cleaning.
Typical workflow: close sash → run UV for 30 minutes to disinfect → set sash to the 10" safety height and allow 10 minutes of stabilization → perform work → close sash and run UV for 30 minutes for post-use decontamination.
Ductwork not included, you will need to install your own ducting.

FAQ

What is a Class II Type A2 biosafety cabinet?

The NSF Certified Class II Type A2 Biosafety Cabinet provides personnel, product, and environmental protection using inward inflow and HEPA-filtered laminar downflow. It is suitable for work with agents that require BSL-1, BSL-2, or BSL-3 practices where low levels of volatile toxic chemicals are not used.
How is this different from a laminar flow clean bench or fume hood?

A clean bench does not protect the user and exhausts unfiltered air; a chemical fume hood does not protect the product. The NSF Certified Class II Type A2 Biosafety Cabinet protects all three by HEPA-filtering downflow and exhaust air.
What can’t I use inside the BSC?

Do not use open flames, flammable/explosive or volatile toxic chemicals. Minimal use (≤10 mL) of 70% IPA/EtOH for surface disinfection is acceptable. Always follow your SOPs and the guidance that accompanies the NSF Certified Class II Type A2 Biosafety Cabinet .
What are the recommended pre- and post-use steps?

Close sash and run UV for ~30 minutes before work; set sash to 10" tested opening and allow ~10 minutes of airflow stabilization; after work, close sash and run UV another ~30 minutes. These steps help maintain the performance of the NSF Certified Class II Type A2 Biosafety Cabinet .
This applies to your NSF Certified Class II Type A2 Biosafety Cabinet order as well.
