Description

A PTFE thermometer adapter for introducing a thermometer or temperature probe into a ground-glass joint. The body carries a male standard-taper joint at its lower end and an external screw thread at the top. The cap threads down onto a bored sealing insert, compressing it around the probe stem so the stem can be set to the immersion depth you want and then held there.

Five size combinations are stocked, pairing the ground-joint size with the bore the stem passes through. Two separate dimensions have to match: the joint size must match the port on your still head, distillation adapter or flask, and the bore must match the outside diameter of the thermometer or probe stem.

Sizes and part numbers

  • 14/20 joint, 3.5 mm bore — TA142035
  • 14/20 joint, 5 mm bore — TA14205
  • 24/40 joint, 3.5 mm bore — TA244035
  • 24/40 joint, 5 mm bore — TA24405
  • 24/40 joint, 6 mm bore — TA24406

The 6 mm bore is offered on the 24/40 joint only.

Supplied with

  • Adapter body, threaded top with male standard-taper joint
  • Screw cap
  • O-ring
  • Bored sealing insert

Material is PTFE. The supplier specification we hold states no temperature or pressure rating for the assembly, and none is claimed here.

Frequently asked questions

Which joint and bore combinations are available?+

Five: 14/20 with a 3.5 mm or 5 mm bore, and 24/40 with a 3.5 mm, 5 mm or 6 mm bore. The 6 mm bore is offered on the 24/40 joint only.

How do I choose the bore size?+

Match it to the outside diameter of the thermometer or probe stem — a 5 mm bore takes a 5 mm stem. The 3.5 mm bore is the option for thinner stems. The bore is independent of the joint size, so check both before ordering.

Is the joint male or female?+

Male — an inner cone — so the adapter seats into a female socket such as the thermometer port on a still head or distillation adapter.

What is included?+

The adapter body with its threaded top and male taper, the screw cap, an O-ring and a bored sealing insert.

What is it made from?+

PTFE. The specification we hold gives no temperature or pressure rating for the assembly, so none is stated here. Ask us to confirm if your method depends on a rated figure.

Where is this used?+

The source catalogue lists it against short-path distillation systems from 2 L to 20 L, and under thermometers and probes generally. Any glassware with a 14/20 or 24/40 thermometer port takes it.
