Parent organisation

CASRAI is not itself a separately incorporated legal entity. Its programme of work — the Dictionary, CRediT implementation guidance, the working groups, and the editorial board — is funded and governed through the charitable fund of The Health Initiative, a registered U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Fiscal sponsorship of this kind is a standard arrangement for community-stewarded standards bodies: it gives CASRAI legal and financial continuity — the ability to hold funds, sign agreements, and receive philanthropic grants — without the overhead of maintaining a separate corporate entity.

Membership dues, programme revenue, and philanthropic grants (see the funders page) are directed back into maintaining the standards and the editorial review that keeps the Dictionary current. The Health Initiative provides governance oversight and operational continuity; substantive editorial decisions remain with the CASRAI Editorial Board and the twenty working groups.

The Health Initiative's registration details (legal name, status, EIN and registered office) are listed on this page so they can be checked with the IRS directly.

The Health Initiative also runs a separate clinical service: a self-pay telehealth service for patients who are physically in Puerto Rico, at Telemedicina en Puerto Rico (The Health Initiative). It is operated by The Health Initiative, which receives its payments; it is not part of CASRAI's research-administration work.
