Examples
Worked examples
- Is an instance
A Stage 2 publication reporting a null effect, accepted because the Stage 1 protocol was followed
Counter-examples
Looks similar, but isn't
- Not an instance
A paper that was not preceded by Stage 1 acceptance is not a Stage 2 results paper, regardless of its quality
Editorial commentary
The Stage 2 review explicitly cannot reject a paper for null or unexpected results. Deviations from the Stage 1 plan must be transparently reported; exploratory analyses are permitted but must be labelled as such. Final publication links back to the original Stage 1 protocol.
