Any casrai.org URL under /dictionary/term/, /dictionary/domain/, /dictionary/picklist/, /dictionary/object/, /credit/roles/, or the bare /dictionary and /credit roots. Editorial articles under /news/ are also recognised. Anything else on casrai.org falls back to a generic WebPage citation.

How do I cite a dictionary term?

Paste the term URL (e.g. https://casrai.org/dictionary/term/orcid-id) and copy the APA form. The generated citation follows the pattern: CASRAI. (2026). Term name (Dictionary term). CASRAI Dictionary v2026.1. https://casrai.org/dictionary/term/orcid-id. CC-BY 4.0.

Can I cite the dictionary as a whole?

Yes. Paste https://casrai.org/dictionary into the tool and pick your preferred format. The generator detects the root URL as the full Dataset and produces a top-level citation including the current version and licence.

Are these CSL-compliant?

Accepted Answer

The CSL JSON output is valid Citation Style Language input and works directly in Pandoc, Zotero, and any CSL-aware processor. The APA, MLA, Chicago, and Vancouver plain-text outputs are CSL-style approximations suitable for direct paste; for a strictly conformant render of any CSL style, feed the CSL JSON to your preferred CSL processor.

What licence applies to the citations?

The citation strings you generate are released under CC-BY 4.0, the same licence as the underlying CASRAI Dictionary. You can use the citations anywhere — manuscripts, software documentation, internal wikis, commercial publications — provided CASRAI is credited as the source.
