Editorial commentary
Conference abstracts are useful for time-stamping priority of findings and recording presentation activity, but conventionally not counted alongside peer-reviewed journal articles or full conference papers in research assessment. ICMJE allows conference-abstract pre-publication of results that will subsequently appear in a journal.
