LMA Size Chart: Sizes 1-6 by Patient Weight

LMA size chart from Teleflex: LMA Classic sizes 1-6 by patient weight, max cuff pressure, and which sizes each LMA airway offers.

General product information from the manufacturer’s published sizing tables. It is not medical advice and does not say which size suits any individual patient. Always check your product’s labelling and instructions for use (IFU).

LMA is a Teleflex brand name for laryngeal mask airways, and Teleflex sizes every LMA by patient weight: size 1 for patients up to 5 kg, up to size 6 for patients over 100 kg on the LMA Classic and LMA Unique. The chart below is copied from Teleflex’s ordering table, checked on 1 November 2026. For the i-gel, a different brand, see our i-gel weight chart.

LMA size chart: LMA Classic by patient weight

Source: Teleflex US, LMA Classic Reusable Airway product page, ordering information (checked 1 November 2026). Teleflex describes the product as “a reusable, first generation laryngeal mask”.

Mask size Patient weight (kg) Maximum cuff pressure (cm H2O) Teleflex item no.
1 Up to 5 60 100010
1.5 5-10 60 100015
2 10-20 60 100020
2.5 20-30 60 100025
3 30-50 60 100030
4 50-70 60 100040
5 70-100 60 100050
6 Over 100 60 100060

Check your product’s labelling: the weight bands and pressure limit that apply to the device in your hand are the ones printed on its packaging and in its IFU.

How to read the LMA sizing chart

The “Patient weight” column is the manufacturer’s weight guide for each mask size, so the size number is a label for a weight band, not a measurement of the mask. The 60 cm H2O column is a maximum cuff pressure, not a target. Teleflex lists the same maximum for every size. The item number identifies the exact size when ordering, so match it to the label on the pack.

LMA sizes across the LMA airway family

LMA is a family, and not every product comes in every size. Teleflex’s LMA Airways page (checked 1 November 2026) lists these size ranges:

LMA product Sizes listed Weight range covered (kg)
LMA Unique 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6 Up to 5 to over 100
LMA Unique EVO 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5 Up to 5 to 70-100
LMA Supreme 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5 Up to 5 to 70-100
LMA Gastro 3, 4, 5 30-100
LMA Protector 3, 4, 5 30-100
LMA Fastrach (mask) 3, 4, 5 30-100
LMA Flexible 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5 10-20 to 70-200

Within a size number, the weight bands match the Classic chart for these products, with one listed exception: Teleflex gives LMA Flexible size 5 as 70-200 kg. For the design differences between supraglottic airway types, see laryngeal mask airway types.

LMA sizes versus other brands

A size number only has meaning inside one brand’s chart. The LMA Classic size 4 is listed for 50-70 kg, while the Intersurgical i-gel size 4 is listed for 50-90 kg (figures from the manufacturer’s information sheet, as reported on our i-gel size guide). Do not carry a size from one brand to another. The side-by-side device comparison is in i-gel vs LMA.

Common mix-ups

  • Same number, different brand. LMA size 4 and i-gel size 4 cover different weight ranges.
  • Half sizes. Sizes 1.5 and 2.5 exist on the Classic, Unique, Unique EVO and Supreme, so “size 2” and “size 2.5” are different items with different item numbers.
  • Assuming all products reach size 6. Of the products above, only the Classic and Unique list size 6.
  • Treating the maximum cuff pressure as a setting. It is an upper limit stated by the manufacturer.
  • Confusing airway device size with tube size. An LMA size is not an endotracheal tube size. Tube dimensions are covered in endotracheal tube sizes, and a different device again in oral airway sizes.

FAQ

What are the LMA sizes?

For the LMA Classic, Teleflex lists sizes 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5 and 6, each tied to a patient weight band from up to 5 kg to over 100 kg.

Is LMA sizing based on weight?

Yes. Teleflex’s tables give a patient weight range for each mask size. Follow the IFU supplied with the product.

Which LMA products are offered in sizes 3, 4 and 5?

In Teleflex’s tables, sizes 3, 4 and 5 appear for every LMA product listed above, with weight bands of 30-50, 50-70 and 70-100 kg (the Flexible size 5 is listed as 70-200 kg). The Classic and Unique also list size 6. These are manufacturer product listings, not advice for a particular patient.

Do LMA sizes work with other brands’ charts?

No. Each manufacturer defines its own sizes and weight bands, so use the chart that comes with the product.
