What Problem Gauze Solves

An open wound needs three things managed at once: fluid absorbed so it doesn’t pool against the skin or soak through clothing, the wound bed protected from outside contamination, and — for anything beyond a shallow cut — physical space filled so the wound heals from the base up rather than closing over a pocket of trapped fluid. Gauze is built around the first and third of those jobs.   • Sterile gauze is processed and individually or small-batch sealed to be free of viable microorganisms at the time of packaging, and stays sterile only as long as that packaging is intact and unexpired.
