No fully free permanent tier is published on ReadCube's own site as of this writing — it runs on four paid subscription tiers (Essential, Plus, Team, Enterprise). Zotero, by contrast, has no paid tier for its core software; the only cost is optional cloud storage beyond the free 300 MB allotment.
Does ReadCube Papers work with Google Docs?

Yes — its SmartCite feature inserts citations into Google Docs as well as Microsoft Word. Zotero also has a native Google Docs plugin, so both tools cover this workflow, unlike some reference managers (Mendeley Cite, for example, is Word-only).
Can I move my library from ReadCube Papers to Zotero, or the other way around?

Both support standard bibliographic export/import formats, so metadata can generally be moved between them. PDF annotations and any AI-generated notes or monitoring searches are specific to ReadCube's platform and won't carry over automatically — test a small subset of the library first if extensive annotations are involved.
