Worked examples

Counter-examples

Looks similar, but isn't

  • Not an instance

A general web search engine is not re3data.

  • Not an instance

FAIRsharing is a related but distinct registry — broader in scope (standards, databases, policies).

Editorial commentary

Re3data (re3data.org) was launched in 2012 and is maintained by KIT, GFZ, and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in partnership with DataCite. Each repository entry carries metadata about institution, country, content type, discipline, access conditions, certifications, PID systems used, API availability, and language coverage. The registry is referenced by funders and journals when articulating deposit policy (‘deposit in a re3data-listed repository’), and by researchers when choosing a repository.
