Editorial commentary

DataCite is a global non-profit membership organisation founded in 2009 to provide DOIs for research data. Member organisations (data centres, repositories, universities) hold one or more DOI prefixes and deposit DataCite-schema metadata at the time of DOI minting. The DataCite REST API exposes the metadata corpus and powers DataCite Commons, an aggregated view across data, people (ORCID), and organisations (ROR).
