Editorial commentary

Updated project plans are a normal feature of multi-year projects. Sponsors generally require an updated plan when substantive scope or timeline changes are approved. Common triggers include: a no-cost extension shifting end dates and milestones; a pivot following early findings; a change in key personnel; addition or removal of a partner; significant rebudgeting between categories. The updated plan becomes the new reference against which subsequent reports compare. Version control is essential, with each version dated and the change history preserved.
