Editorial commentary

Pre-2017, WDS Regular Members and Network Members underwent a certification process focused on the operations of scientific-data centres. From 2017, WDS shifted its certification function into the joint CoreTrustSeal scheme while continuing to operate the World Data System as a coordinating body for data-stewarding scientific organisations under ISC (formerly ICSU). Many WDS Regular Members today hold CoreTrustSeal certification.
