Is Research Square owned by Springer Nature?+
Yes. Springer Nature invested incrementally from 2016, became majority owner in 2020, and completed full acquisition of Research Square Company on December 1, 2022. arXiv has no publisher ownership and became an independent nonprofit on July 1, 2026.
Is a Research Square preprint peer reviewed?+
No. Neither an arXiv nor a Research Square preprint is peer reviewed at the point it is posted. In Review tracks the manuscript's progress through the receiving journal's peer review and may show reviewer reports later if the journal opts in.
Can I post the same manuscript to both arXiv and Research Square?+
There's no inherent conflict since they serve different purposes, but check each platform's and your target journal's duplicate-posting policy first -- most fields expect one canonical preprint DOI.
Does Research Square require endorsement like arXiv does?+
No. arXiv's endorsement system applies only to first-time submitters in a subject category. Research Square has no equivalent -- its editorial screening covers ethics disclosures and competing interests instead.
