Editorial commentary
Annual reports are the principal recurring reporting instrument for NIH (RPPR), NSF (Project Reports), UKRI (Researchfish for outcomes plus Je-S for finance), and many foundations. Templates vary, but content typically includes: accomplishments against aims, products (publications, datasets, software, IP), participants (named, role, effort), impact, training and professional development, dissemination, and changes/problems. Annual reports trigger continuation decisions and are reviewed by programme officers. Researchfish-style impact reporting may be a separate annual exercise.
