Editorial commentary
Interim reports are sponsor-mandated and may be annual, periodic, or milestone-driven. They typically combine a technical narrative (progress against aims, work-package status, deliverables submitted, publications, risks) with a financial statement (expenditure to date, variance, forecast). Sponsors review interim reports as part of the continuation decision. Missing or late interim reports can delay subsequent payments.
