Editorial commentary

Continuation decisions are routine for multi-year US federal awards and Horizon Europe projects. They are based on review of the annual or periodic report and may be 'satisfactory' (continue without change), 'satisfactory with comments', or 'unsatisfactory' (triggering corrective action plans, partial funding, or rarely termination). NIH continuation decisions are reflected in updated Notices of Award; Horizon Europe continuation decisions are issued through the Funding & Tenders Portal review process. Most continuations are routine but some are scrutinised.
