Worked examples

An ERC Consolidator Grant has a mid-term review at month 30 of a 60-month grant.

Counter-examples

Looks similar, but isn't

  • Not an instance

Routine internal consortium meetings are not formal interim reviews.

  • Not an instance

A closeout final review is end-of-project, not interim.

Editorial commentary

Interim project reviews vary in formality. Horizon Europe periodic reviews involve the Project Officer and may include external experts; ERC mid-term reviews are conducted for many calls; NIH may convene a study section review for renewal applications, which functions interim relative to the broader programme. Reviews assess progress against aims, soundness of plan for remaining work, resource utilisation, and overall trajectory. Outputs may include recommendations for scope adjustment, milestone revision, or (rarely) award termination.
