Worked examples

  • Is an instance

TIB (Technische Informationsbibliothek) leading DataCite Germany.

Counter-examples

Looks similar, but isn't

  • Not an instance

A bilateral repository partnership between two universities is not a DataCite consortium.

  • Not an instance

Joining ORCID through a Jisc consortium does not give DataCite membership.

Editorial commentary

As with ORCID consortia, DataCite consortia let countries adopt DataCite cost-effectively. Each consortium has one Consortium Lead and many Consortium Organizations; the lead provides local support, training, and integration help. Examples include the British Library (UK), TIB (Germany via DataCite Germany), CSC (Finland), and others. A consortium organisation can mint DOIs for its own outputs without negotiating with DataCite directly.
