Editorial commentary

Knowledge Exchange (KE) is widely used in UK higher-education policy (Research England's Knowledge Exchange Framework, KEF) and Scottish funding contexts. It explicitly emphasises bidirectionality: researchers learn from non-academic partners as much as those partners learn from research. KE encompasses consultancy, contract research, collaborative research, continuing professional development, IP commercialisation, public engagement, and infrastructure sharing. The KEF reports on universities' KE activity across seven perspectives.
