Editorial commentary
Public engagement with research (PER) emphasises engagement directly connected to research activity: from involving publics in research design, through dialogue during the conduct of research, to engagement with research findings. PER frameworks (NCCPE, Wellcome) commonly distinguish 'transmit', 'consult' and 'collaborate' modes. UKRI uses PER terminology to differentiate research-specific engagement from broader public-engagement-with-science activities.
