Editorial commentary
Commissioned by Research England, UKRI and Jisc, the review's final report 'Harnessing the Metric Tide: Indicators, infrastructures and priorities for UK responsible research assessment' was published in December 2023. It found inconsistent adoption of responsible-metrics principles across UK higher education, recommended a national Responsible Research Assessment forum, and called for investment in open and transparent indicator infrastructures. It deliberately framed indicators as one input among many alongside expert judgement, narrative information and peer review.
