Editorial commentary
Requests are submitted through a public form and reviewed against ROR’s inclusion criteria (an entity must be a research-active organisation with a stable web presence and identifiable mission). The curation team triages, validates, and publishes monthly release files. Major events (mergers, splits, dissolutions) are reflected in relationships fields and successor/predecessor relationships rather than by silently mutating the previous identifier — this preserves the persistence of issued ROR IDs even as organisations change.
