Editorial commentary
GRID identifiers take the form grid.NNNNN.X (e.g. grid.5335.0). GRID provided the first widely adopted open registry of research organisations and was used in Dimensions, altmetric platforms, and various CRIS systems. After ROR’s launch in 2019 and the transfer of curation to the community-led ROR initiative in 2021, GRID was frozen and Digital Science stopped issuing new IDs. ROR records carry GRID crosswalks so legacy GRID-keyed data can still be joined.
