- Not an instance
A CSV file emailed to a colleague with no repository, DOI, or metadata is not a dataset-as-output
Editorial commentary
Dataset citation principles (FORCE11 2014) and the DataCite metadata schema have established datasets as first-class outputs. Counted in narrative CVs, REF, and increasingly in promotion criteria. May be accompanied by a data paper but is also citable standalone.
