Editorial commentary

STROBE (von Elm et al., 2007) addresses observational designs where CONSORT does not apply. Extensions exist for molecular epidemiology (STROBE-ME), routinely collected data (RECORD), nutritional epidemiology (STROBE-nut), and several others. STROBE is the principal reporting standard in epidemiology and clinical observational research.
