Editorial commentary
The reporting phase covers the planning, drafting, internal review, and submission of interim or final reports to the funder. Reporting cycles vary by sponsor (annual RPPR for NIH, 18-month periodic for Horizon Europe, milestone-driven for some industry SRAs). Reporting effort is non-trivial and is often under-budgeted at proposal stage. Strong reporting practice draws on continuous documentation throughout execution rather than crash effort at deadline.
