Editorial commentary

UKRI piloted R4RI-style narrative CVs from 2020 and, in 2022-2024, rolled them out across most of its funding opportunities through the new UKRI Funding Service. The mandate operationalises the Royal Society template with UKRI-specific guidance: applicants describe contributions to the generation of new knowledge, to the development of others, to the wider research community, and to broader society. UKRI provides reviewer guidance to evaluate narratives qualitatively rather than by counting publications. The mandate is part of UKRI's broader response to the Metric Tide Review and its CoARA commitments.
