Before you set out to find a doctor in Trujillo Alto, know that the NeoMed ER in the town's former CDT is open only Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. For nights and weekends, the nearest verified hospital ERs are listed below. Is this an emergency?

This is not an emergency service. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room if you have:

  • Chest pain, shortness of breath or stroke signs
  • A child who is struggling to breathe, hard to wake or cannot keep fluids down
  • Fever with severe belly pain, repeated vomiting, or bleeding gums or nose
  • Very high or very low blood sugar with confusion

A doctor in Trujillo Alto: the NeoMed ER keeps daytime hours

NeoMed Center Trujillo Alto runs the town's former CDT. Its official page says: "Sala de Emergencias: Lunes a viernes de 6:00 a.m. a 5:00 p.m." (Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.). It is not open at night, on Saturdays or on Sundays.

The page gives no address or phone. The federal provider registry (NPI) lists 130 Calle Carite, Urb. Lago Alto, phone 787-737-2311; we have not confirmed it by phone, so call before you go. It is not affiliated with us.

Nights and weekends: the nearest 24-hour ERs

In an emergency call 911; the ambulance crew decides where to take the patient. These are hospital ERs we checked on each hospital's website:

  • Hospital Episcopal San Lucas Metro, Cupey (the former HIMA Cupey site), Carr. 844 Km 0.5, San Juan. Phone 787-761-8383. Adult ER open 24/7; we could not confirm a pediatric ER. More options on our San Juan neighborhoods page.
  • Hospital UPR Dr. Federico Trilla, Route 3 Km 8.3, Ave. 65 de Infantería. Phone 787-757-1800. Per its website, a 24-hour ER with a pediatric area. Extended-hours urgent care in the neighboring municipality is on our SJU airport-area page.

Canóvanas: a CDT we could not verify

We could not confirm whether the Canóvanas CDT is open or what its hours are, so we do not publish its address or phone; we would rather not send you to a locked door. Federal hospital data (CMS) also lists no hospital ER inside Canóvanas.

If you live in Canóvanas and it is not an emergency, a video visit can save you the drive to Río Piedras or Route 3. If it is, call 911. Unsure which you need? Read where to go when you are sick.

Pharmacies in Trujillo Alto and Canóvanas: when the counter opens

No pharmacy in either town has a 24-hour counter. From the Walgreens locator, checked at night, so only opening times are known:

  • Walgreens, Plaza Encantada, Urb. Encantada, Trujillo Alto, 787-748-0013: store opens 7 a.m., pharmacy counter 9 a.m.
  • Walgreens, PR-181 and PR-850, Trujillo Alto, 787-283-3545: store opens 7 a.m., pharmacy counter 8 a.m.
  • Walgreens, 17000 Route 3, Canóvanas, 787-957-8050: store opens 7 a.m., pharmacy counter 9 a.m.
  • Walgreens, 150 Route 857, 2 miles from Canóvanas by the locator's count (not a drive time), 787-701-0808: the store is open 24 hours, but the pharmacy counter opens at 7 a.m.

Nearest 24-hour pharmacy counter to Trujillo Alto: Walgreens, 2505 Carr 841, Guaynabo (787-287-0528), or Walgreens, 101 Carr 1, in Caguas (787-744-2905), both 6.1 miles per the Walgreens locator and both with a 1:30–2 a.m. meal break. From Canóvanas, the locator showed no 24-hour counter among its five nearest results.

Dengue in Trujillo Alto and Canóvanas

According to the Puerto Rico Department of Health's weekly report for week 37 (published September 23, 2026), Trujillo Alto has 5 dengue cases so far in 2026 (7.5 per 100,000 residents) and Canóvanas 2 (4.8 per 100,000), low next to Caguas, which has the most cases on the island. Telehealth in Trujillo Alto and Canóvanas: who lives here and where video helps

Per the Census Bureau, Trujillo Alto had 66,816 residents in 2024, and 23.3% are 65 or older. Canóvanas had 41,512 and skews younger: only 20.3% are 65 or older, so there are many families with kids.

For an older Trujillo Alto resident with stable high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes, the doctor can follow up by video and renew non-controlled prescriptions without anyone driving to Cupey. For a Canóvanas child with a cold or a rash on a Saturday, when NeoMed is closed, a video visit can help sort out whether an ER trip is needed. Is there a 24-hour pharmacy in Trujillo Alto or Canóvanas?
Not a 24-hour counter. From Trujillo Alto, the nearest are Walgreens at 2505 Carr 841 (Guaynabo) or 101 Carr 1 (Caguas), both 6.1 miles per the locator. The 24-hour Walgreens store at 150 Route 857 does not keep its pharmacy counter open at night.
Can I get a video visit on a Saturday, when NeoMed is closed?
Request a visit online 24/7 — we confirm your time by email or text. The time depends on the doctor's availability, so for anything that cannot wait, go to an ER.
How much does a visit cost?
US$79 per visit, the same for adults and children, paid by card when you request it. If the visit cannot take place, you get a full refund. We do not bill insurance; on request we give you an itemized receipt.
