Who will see you?

Dr. Diana Nieves Castro, MD, is a general practice physician licensed in Puerto Rico, with several years of emergency-department experience. You can verify her license and NPI record on the doctor's profile. She is not a pediatrician: for children she treats common problems and will tell you when an in-person visit or a pediatric specialist is needed. She is also the Founding Executive Director of The Health Initiative, the organization that runs this service.

What can telehealth in Puerto Rico help with?

Where do we see patients?

Anywhere in Puerto Rico, as long as you are physically on the island during the visit. Visitors and tourists are welcome. We have no physical office: we are a telehealth-only service.

Who runs this service?

The Health Initiative, a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN 93-2197573), runs this service and receives the payments. The Health Initiative also manages CASRAI, a research-administration standards programme; this clinical service is separate from that work. More in about us.

How much does a visit cost?: US$79 per visit, the same price for adults and children. You pay by card when you request the visit. If the visit cannot take place, we refund you in full.
Do you take insurance?: We do not bill insurance. On request we give you an itemized receipt (superbill) so you can claim from your plan yourself.
Do I have to be in Puerto Rico?: Yes. The doctor is licensed in Puerto Rico, so you must be physically in Puerto Rico during the visit. If you are visiting the island, you can use the service too.
Do you see children?: Yes, from 6 months old. If the patient is under 21, a parent with patria potestad (parental authority) or a legal guardian signs the consent, stays on camera for the whole visit and shows photo ID. The doctor is not a pediatrician, and some things are not done by video, such as strep tests or vaccines.
