Prescription refills online in Puerto Rico, by video

You can get a prescription refill online in Puerto Rico for a non-controlled maintenance medication after a video visit with a Puerto Rico-licensed doctor, as long as your condition is stable. If appropriate, the doctor can prescribe medication. We do not prescribe controlled substances. Every refill follows a real-time evaluation and is at the doctor's discretion. A visit costs US$79.

Which prescription refills we can do online in Puerto Rico

Non-controlled medications for conditions that are already diagnosed and stable, such as:

Medications for high blood pressure.
Medications for high cholesterol.
Medications for type 2 diabetes and an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism).
Medications for allergies or acid reflux.

What we don't refill

So you don't waste your time or money:

Controlled substances, such as opioid pain medicines, benzodiazepines for anxiety or sleep, and ADHD stimulants.
Compounded versions of GLP-1 weight-loss medications.
Medications that require an in-person exam or a test the doctor can't do or review by video.
Medications for a condition that isn't stable, or that can't be assessed well by video.

What to have ready

The doctor needs to know exactly what you take and how it's going. Have ready:

Your pill bottles or boxes, or a list with each medication's name, dose and how often you take it.
The name and town of your pharmacy.
Recent blood pressure or blood sugar readings, if you check them at home.
Your most recent lab results, if you have them.
Any medication allergies.

How you get your prescription

If appropriate, the doctor can prescribe medication. At the end of the visit she explains how you will receive the prescription to take to the pharmacy you choose. We don't promise any particular delivery method. The prescription has no extra charge: it's part of the US$79 online doctor visit.

Call the pharmacy first to check they have the medication in stock and what your plan covers. We don't bill insurance, but your pharmacy benefit is separate and may still cover the medication.

When we'll ask for labs or an in-person visit

Sometimes a refill isn't safe without more information. The doctor may:

Give you a lab order if your labs are out of date.
Recommend an in-person visit if your readings are out of range, you have new symptoms or side effects, or you need a physical exam.
Suggest chronic-condition follow-up rather than a refill alone.

Refills for children

Children's doses are based on weight, so have a current weight ready. Patients under 21: a parent with patria potestad (parental authority) or a legal guardian stays on camera for the whole visit. We don't refill ADHD stimulants or any other controlled substance. See child doctor visits.

We see patients from 6 months old. Patients under 21: a parent or legal guardian must be on camera for the whole visit.

Can you refill my blood pressure, diabetes or cholesterol prescription?: If your condition is stable and the medication isn't controlled, the doctor can renew it after a video visit when she considers it appropriate. She may ask for labs first.
Can I get a refill without a visit?: No. Every refill requires a real-time video evaluation with the doctor.
Do you refill sleep or anxiety medications?: Only if they are not controlled substances and the doctor considers it appropriate. We do not prescribe controlled substances, such as benzodiazepines.
I'm visiting and left my medication at home. Can you help?: If it is a non-controlled maintenance medication and you are physically in Puerto Rico, yes, after a video visit and at the doctor's discretion. Have the bottle label or a photo of it ready.
