Doctor in Arecibo by Video: ERs, Urgent Care and Pharmacies

If you need a doctor in Arecibo for a sick child, go to Hospital Pavía Arecibo: of the town's two 24/7 ERs, Metropolitano Dr. Susoni sees adults only. For something common, Dr. Diana Nieves Castro, MD, can see you by video for US$79 while you are physically in Puerto Rico. We found no pharmacy counter in Arecibo that stays open overnight. In an emergency, call 911.

Is this an emergency?

Emergency rooms in Arecibo: Pavía (adults and children) and Susoni (adults only)

In an emergency call 911. Metro Pavia runs both 24/7 ERs we verified in Arecibo, and what separates them is the patient's age. Neither is affiliated with us.

  • Hospital Pavía Arecibo, Route 129 Km 1.0, Ave San Luis. Phone 787-650-7272. 24/7 ER for adults and children, per Metro Pavia's lists.
  • Hospital Metropolitano Dr. Susoni, 55 Calle Palma. Phone 787-650-1030. 24/7 ER for adults only. With a child, go to Pavía Arecibo.

Urgent care in Arecibo: Doctors' Center, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The Doctors' Center Arecibo urgent care (sala de urgencias) is open 7 a.m.–11 p.m., per Doctors' Center's own location data. It is not a 24-hour ER. Address and phone unconfirmed, so we do not publish them: confirm with Doctors' Center before you go.

It is the extended-hours option for a cut or a sprain late in the afternoon. After 11 p.m., or for anything serious, your options are Pavía Arecibo, Susoni or 911. Unsure which you need? Read where to go when you are sick.

Is there a 24-hour pharmacy in Arecibo?

We found no 24-hour pharmacy counter in Arecibo, or anywhere on the north coast between Bayamón and Aguadilla. Puerto Rico's five 24-hour counters are all Walgreens, in Guaynabo, Bayamón, Caguas, Cayey and Ponce.

  • Farmacia Caridad Arecibo, 757 Ave Miramar, 787-880-4240: the store is open 7 a.m.–10 p.m., but the pharmacy counter closes earlier: Mon–Fri 7 a.m.–7 p.m., Sat 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Sun 11 a.m.–5 p.m.
  • 24-hour counters the Walgreens locator returns for Arecibo: Walgreens, 4699 Route 5, Bayamón (787-799-4699) and Walgreens, 2979 Ave Emilio Fagot, Ponce (787-841-7400). We do not publish distances because we could not confirm where the locator measured them from. Both close 1:30–2 a.m.

Unconfirmed: pharmacy hours at the Walgreens stores inside Arecibo, so we do not list them. On a Saturday, Caridad Arecibo's counter closes at 5 p.m.: if you get an afternoon prescription, call before you set off.

The Río Grande de Arecibo: flood control under investigation

In March 2026 the Puerto Rico Senate approved Resolution 388 to investigate the Río Grande de Arecibo flood-control project, according to Metro Puerto Rico.

In the meantime, if you live near the river or in a low-lying area, keep your medication list with doses and photos of the labels in a waterproof bag, and renew prescriptions before hurricane season (June 1 to November 30), not once a rain warning is out. See medications and hurricanes.

Dengue in Arecibo: few cases, one death in the region

According to the Puerto Rico Department of Health's weekly report for week 37 (published September 23, 2026), the municipio of Arecibo has 6 dengue cases so far in 2026 (7.0 per 100,000 residents) and the Arecibo health region 77. One of the island's four dengue deaths in 2026 was in that region: a 22-year-old man, in July. So even with few cases, the warning signs matter; they are in our dengue guide.
